Suicide car bomber targets CRPF convoy near Awantipora, several killed and wounded; Jaish claims responsibility

Over a dozen CRPF men have been killed and several others wounded when a bomb-laden car was blow up at Goripora near Awantipora on Srinagar-Jammu highway this afternoon.

Reports yet to be confirmed by the police say that the car was driven by a suicide bomber.

Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed the responsibility for the attack and said that a local Jaish commander Aadil Ahmad alias Vikas commando carried out the suicide attack.

Sources said that the ‘suicide bomber” rammed the car into a CRPF bus causing a huge blast blast. The bus, carrying CRPF personnel, was heavily damaged and the men on board were critically wounded.

Two other vehicles which were ply right behind the targeted bus also got damaged under the impact of the blast.

Initial reports said that 25 men of the force got wounded. At least, 13 of them succumbed to their injuries later.

Condition of some more wounded CRPF men is stated to be critical.

Traffic has been suspended on the highway.

Sources, quoting eyewitnesses said that huge explosion was heard in the area before coming upon chaotic scene of broken glasses and parts of vehicles, scattered luggage and bloodied personnel.
