Militants attacked a naka party comprising of police and CRPF at Khannabal-Pahalgam (KP) road near bus stand in Islamabad town.
Official sources said that five CRPF personnel were killed in the attack. In retaliatory action, one militant was also killed.
The slain CRPF men have been identified as Neeru Sharma (ASI), Satinder Kumar, M K Kushwa (both constables), and ASI Ramesh Kumar. The identity of the other slain CRPF man was not known immediately.
Official sources that two militants were involved in the attack. While one of them was killed, his accomplice however succeeded in escaping from the scene.
Sources said that the militants were heavily armed, and it was a suicide attack.
Security forces have laid siege around a vast area of the town and have launched a massive search operation to nab the other militants involved in the attack
Police on Wednesday issued following statement regarding south Kashmir attack said that militants carried out a stand-off firing attack at K.P Road in district Anantnag at about 1650 hours today.
A police spokesman said that in this incident, 05 CRPF personnel were killed while repulsing the said attack. Further, in this incident, 03 force personnel including SHO Anantnag Inspector Arshid Khan sustained gunshot injuries. In the retaliatory action, a militant was killed on the spot. From the materials recovered, it is found that the militant was a foreigner.
“The injured security force personnel have been evacuated to hospital and are undergoing medical treatment for their injuries,” he said.
“The area has been cordoned and searches in the area is going on. Police have registered a case in this regard and investigation is in progress,” said the police spokesman in a statement.
