Four killed in Panjran (Pulwama) operation. Two missing SPOs believed to be among the dead.

Srinagar: With the recovery of one more body from the encounter site, the death toll in Panjran operations has gone up to four.

The dead included two SPOs who had gone missing from district police lines on Wednesday evening.

The special police officers (SPOs) Shabir Ahmad of Tujan Pulwama and Salman of Uthmula Shopian had fled along with two assault rifes from district police line Pulwama on Wednesday evening.

Government forces launched massive search operation to track down the missing SPOs. Sources said that after specific inputs, the government forces laid a siege around Panjran village. A fierce gunfight took place as the government forces zeroed in on the particular house where the SPOs and their militant associates were hiding.

The encounter lasted for several hours.

The government forces finally blasted the house. Four dead bodies have been recovered from the encounter site.

They included two militants and the two SPOs.

The identity of the slain militants, however, was not immediately established. The search operation was still on.
