Jaish suicide attack update: 26 CRPF men killed, over 40 wounded, condition of many of them critical, biggest since Uri attack

The death toll of CRPF men has risen to 26. Sources say that it could rise further as condition of several other wounded CRPF men is very critical.

A CRPF convoy comprising of 40 vehicles was on way to Srinagar when a suicide car bomber rammed his explosive-laden car into one of the buses carrying CRPF men at around 3 pm at Goripora near Awantipora on Srinagar-Jammu highway.

Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for the attack and said that a local cadre of the outfit commander Aadil Ahmad alias Vikas commando carried out the attack.

At least three buses with CRPF men on board were damaged in the blast.

Over a dozen CRPF men were killed on spot while 45 others received grievous injuries.

At least 15 more personnel are reported to have succumbed to their injuries. Sources said that the death toll rise further as condition of several other wound personnel is critical.

Traffic has been suspended on the highway.

Sources, quoting eyewitnesses said that huge explosion was heard in the area before coming upon chaotic scene of broken glasses and parts of vehicles, scattered luggage and bloodied personnel.
