Srinagar: In a serious setback to PDP, its president and former chief minister Mahbooba Mufti is emerging third in the run up to the parliament in her pocket borough south Kashmir seat. The PDP is nowhere in race in other two seats–Srinagar and Baramullah too. In Srinagar PDP candidate is far behind of National Conference nominee and former chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah. Though the counting of votes is still on but the trend shows that Farooq Abdullah is winning the seat quite convincingly.
Sajjad Lone too is facing a setback in north Kashmir as the Peoples Conference candidate Raja Ajaz is trailing by around 23000 against Mohammad Akbar Lone of the National Conference. Till filing this report, Lone had polled 114458 votes while Raja Ajaz followed by 92354 votes. The AIP leader Engineer Rasheed has secured 89125 and PDP’s Qayoom Wani 50000.
In south Kashmir NC’s Justice Hasnain Masoodi is ahead of his rivals. As the counting continues, he has, so far, polled 36061 votes while his nearest rival Congress’s Ghulam Ahmad Mir has got 28110 votes. Mahbooba Mufti is trailing at third with 24257 votes.
The elections results have shown resurgence of National Conference in the valley. The NC was outwitted by the PDP in 2014 parliamentary elections winning all the three seats from the valley. As the trend shows, it is quite a reverse position now with NC winning all the three seats.
