Srinagar: One person was killed and over twenty others injured in clashes with government forces at Pinjoora village outside Shopian town this evening. The slain person has been identified as Sajjad Ahmad Parray of Baderhama village.
Reports said that Sajjad was hit by a bullet during violent clashes with government forces. He was rushed to hsopital where doctors declared him dead. Another person identified as Ashfaq Ahmad also received bullet injury. He has been rushed to Srinagar hospital in critical condition.
The clashes between the civilians and government forces erupted after the latter laid siege to Goglaroo part of Pinjoors village, two kms in east of Shopian town following information about the presence of militants there.
Hundreds of residents from nearby villages gathered at the site in support of militants. Raising pro freedom slogans they attacked government forces with stones and other projectile leading to violent clashes.
Reports said over 20 persons including two girls were hot by bullets fired by force’s personnel.
Latest reports said that one of the injured persons has succumbed to his injuries while the other is battling for life in hospital.
Earlier in the morning, government forces had to face severe resistance from civilian population at Mohammad Pora village in Kulgam when the former launched a search operation on a tip off about presence of militants there. Hundreds of militant-sympathizers gathered at the in support of militants and clashed with them. At least 60 persons were reported to have got injured in government forces’ return action. Around half a dozen injured persons were rushed to Srinagar after suffering previous injuries.
Militants reportedly made their escape good.
The house in which militants had reportedly taken shelter was razed to ground in shelling by the government forces.
The situation in the area is reported to be tense. Authorities have temporarily withdrawn internet services in the area.
