A clash between militants and government forces left RR soldier and a militant dead at Ratnipora in southern Pulwama district early this morning. Tow other army soldiers were injured in the encounter.
According to reports the clash occurred when government forces laid siege of the village on a tip off about the presence of militants there. As the forces personnel were zeroing in on the specific hideout, the militant opened fire on them injuring three soldiers.
One of the injured soldiers died on way to hospital while the third is being treated for his injuries. The slain soldier has been identified as Sepoy Baljeet Singh of 10 PARA.
Police, according to reports, said that a joint posse of army’s 50-RR, 10 PARA, SOG and CRPF conducted the operation.
They said that the operation ended with the killing of a militant identified as Hilal Ahmad Rathar of Begambagh Kakapora. He had allegedly facilitated the escape of Naved Jatt from jail last year. Jatt was killed in a clash with security forces in October last.
