Six militants and one army man were killed in different incidents in south Kashmir on Thursday.
Militants attacked an army camp at Lurgam in Tral quarter of Pulwama district with sniper rifles. One soldier is reported to have got killed and another injured in the attack. Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Jaish militant killed a CRPF man in a similar attack on Sunday in the same area.
Police said that two militants were killed in a clash with security forces at Kreeri in Baramullah district. The clash occured when security forces laid siege and search operation in the village following a tip off about the presence of militants there.
The clash lasted for several hours and culminated in the death of two militants. The slain militants were reported to be Lashkar Toiba cadres. Their identity was yet to ascertained.
In another clash, security forces claimed to have killed four militants in a gunfight at Kharpora area of Arwani in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Police said that a posse of army and SOG launched a cordon and search operation in the locality on a specific information about presence of militants there. A gunfight followed after contact was made with the trapped militants. “Four militants were killed in the gunfight so far”, police said, adding that the operation was still going on.
The identity and the group affiliation of the slain militants are being ascertained.
Hundreds of local residents gathered at the encounter site and attacked security forces with stones and bricks.
