Three militants and one soldier were killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday.
The slain militants have been identified as Zubair Ahmad Bhat @Abu Huraira son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat resident of Chursoo Awantipora, Shakoor Ahmad Parray @Jaffar son of Ghulam Nabi Parray resident of Laribal Tral and Tawseef Ahmad Thoker @Abu Talha son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-deen Thoker resident of Chursoo Bunpora Awantipora,” he said.
Four soldiers were also wounded in the gun battle. One of them succumbed to injuries in the hospital later.
A Police spokesman in a statement said that based on a credible input about the presence of militants at Gulshanpora village in higher reaches of Tral in Awantipora, a cordon and search operation was launched early in the morning jointly by Police and army in the area.
Police said that soldiers came under firing during search operation leading to a fierce clash that culminated in the death of three militants and one soldier.
The slain militants, according to police, was combined group of JeM and HM. As per police records Zubair was affiliated with JeM while Shakoor and Tawseef were affiliated with outfit HM.
Several civilians were injured in clashes with security forces during the operation. Thousands of residents of adjoining villages gathered on the encounter site in support of militants causing clashes between security forces and civilian protesters.
