Two civilians, three militants killed, three soldiers injured in early morning encounter in Pulwama

Two civilians have fallen to the bullets of security forces at Kharpora Sirino early this morning. The civilians came under the firing of security forces when the former clashed with the latter during an encounter in the village. Three militants were killed and three soldiers wounded in the encounter.

Reports said that hundreds of residents from nearby villages gathered at the encounter site raising pro freedom slogans. The residents clashed withe security forces pelting stones and other projectiles at them. Security forces retaliated by firing on the protesters. Several residents reportedly got injured in the security forces action.

Two protesters Aamir Paul of Ashminder and Aabid Hussain Lone of Karimabad were fatally wounded. They succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital.

Authorities have beefed up security in the area as tension has gripped Pulwama after the civilian killings. Internet services have been suspended.

Earlier a fierce gunfight between militants and security forces left three militants dead and three soldiers wounded at Pulwama outskirts early this morning.

One of the slain militants is reported to be former army man Zahoor Thoker who, last year, deserted army and joined militancy.

Reports said that columns of army’s RR, SOG and CRPF laid siege of Kharpora quarter of Sirno village in Pulwama in the wee hours today following inputs about the presence of militants in the village.

During house to house search, a fierce gun battle erupted which culminated in the killing of three militants besides injuries to three soldiers.

The identity of the slain militants was not immediately known. However, sources said that one of the slain militants could be army deserter Zahoor Thoker.
