Three Jaish-e-Mohammad militants including top commander Khalid Bhai of Pakistan were killed a gung-battle early this morning at Dalipora quarter of Pulwama town. One army man and a civilian were also killed in the encounter while one civilian and three other soldiers were injured.
Official sources termed the killing of Khalid as major success. They termed him as master behind 2017 suicide attack on CRPF camp at Letpora in which five men of the force were killed. He was active in the valley for the past several years.
Other two militants killed in the clash have been identified as Naseer Pandit of nearby village Karimabad and Umar Mir of Bathipora of Shopian.
The official sources said that two civilian Rayees Ahmad Dar and Mohammad Younus Dar (brothers) and four soldiers were injured in the gunfight. While Rayees died on spot, his brother Younus has been shifted to hospital in critical condition.
One of the injured soldiers named Sandeep Kumar also succumbed to his injuries. The other injured soldiers have been shifted to army’s Badami Bagh 92-base hospital.
Violent clashed have erupted in the town and adjoining villages.
Authorities have imposed curfew in the town. Internet service has also been withdrawn temporarily.
Sources said that the clash erupted after columns of army, CRPF and SOG laid siege of Dalipora following a tip off about presence of militants in the locality.
Meanwhile a youth injured in clashes with police in the wake of alleged rape incident at Sumbal in Bandipora at Chenabal area of Mirgund on May 13 has succumbed to his injuries. His death has caused uneasy across the region and authorities have taken extra security measures to keep situation under control. High speed internet serives has been suspended in Srinagar as well.
